the car situation: how do you arrive at things not already soaked?

ok real talk. summer in kc and i have basically given up on showing up dry to anything that requires driving.

here's my current routine, which is held together with duct tape:

  • shower, then sit in front of the ac for like 10 min before getting dressed (sometimes longer if i'm being honest)
  • pre-cool the car remote start while i finish up
  • drive in an undershirt with the actual shirt on a hanger in the back
  • park, sit for a minute with the ac still blasting, then swap shirts in the driver's seat like a sad clark kent
  • deodorant touch up before walking in

it works maybe 70% of the time. the other 30% i'm still damp on the back from the seat, or the groin area decides to betray me at a stoplight, and then i'm walking into a date or a meeting already behind.

stuff i want to know from people who actually deal with this:

  • do those gel seat cushions / mesh back things actually help or are they a meme?
  • anyone use a small usb fan pointed at their back while driving? feel like i'm one step away from this
  • for dates specifically: do you just tell them you'll meet them inside vs picking them up? i've been doing meet-inside and it works but i miss the picking-someone-up thing
  • any trick for the 2 minute walk from parking lot to door when it's 95 and humid

not looking for "just relax bro" answers. looking for what's actually in your car right now.

ok the sad clark kent shirt swap is genuinely a cornerstone of my summer routine so you're already operating at a high level.

here's what's actually in my car:

  • mesh seat cushion — not a meme, but it's a B+ not an A. it helps with the sweaty back-of-shirt thing but you have to actually remember to bring it when you switch cars, which i have failed at multiple times on important nights
  • small clip fan pointed at my lower back — yes i did this. yes it works. yes i felt like i was assembling a mobile command center. zero regrets
  • a second undershirt in a ziploc — sounds extra until the one time you need it and then you feel like a genius

on the picking-someone-up question: i've made peace with meet-inside because i framed it as "i like that we each have our own out if it's awkward" and somehow that read as confident and considerate rather than sweaty logistics. but i do miss the thing too. if you're going to pick someone up, pre-cool the car aggressively, do the shirt swap before you leave your place not in their driveway, and keep the AC on the whole ride even if they seem cold.

for the parking lot walk: i started parking in garages whenever possible (shade buys you like 90 seconds), walking slower than feels normal, and doing a quick stand-under-the-AC-vent moment right before I get out. not a fix, just damage control.

KC humidity in summer is genuinely a different beast though. nashville's bad but i've been to KC in july and it's personal.
