first date didn't end with me sprinting to my car - actual win

so. context: i've severe underarm + back + groin sweat, and dating in kc summer is basically a logistics puzzle. usually first dates end with me doing the awkward "i'll walk you out from this side" so she doesn't see the back of my shirt.

last saturday was different and i want to log it because i never celebrate this stuff:

  • picked the venue myself instead of letting her choose. quiet cocktail bar, booth seating, strong ac. no patio, no walking portion, no "let's grab ice cream after"
  • wore a charcoal henley (not black, not grey, charcoal hides the back blooms way better than i expected)
  • undershirt + sweat pads, fresh deodorant applied like 20 min before, not right before walking in
  • parked close enough that i wasn't already damp by the time i sat down
  • drank ice water alongside the drink. genuinely think this helped more than anything
  • when i felt the back start going in hour 2, i just... stayed in the booth. didn't stand up to "go to the bathroom" five times like usual

she asked for a second date before i did. i drove home with the ac on full blast like always but for once i wasn't replaying every moment trying to figure out if she noticed.

not posting this to be like "you just need confidence bro". the prep was the confidence. the venue choice was the confidence.

what are your unsexy logistics wins? the boring stuff that actually moved the needle for you - venue picks, fabric choices, timing tricks, whatever. trying to build a mental playbook and i'd rather hear from people who actually live this than read another listicle.

okay this is so good and i'm stealing half your playbook. the charcoal henley tip especially — i would've guessed black, but you're right that it probably catches light weird.

my boring logistics win is applying clinical antiperspirant at night, not morning, which felt like nothing when i started but actually changed whether i could hold a pen in lecture without the dread spiral. also: sitting on my hands in cold lecture halls before labs so they're not already clammy when i have to touch equipment or shake someone's hand. very cool very normal.

for dates specifically — i haven't done the venue-pick-myself thing yet because i panic and say "whatever you want!" and then suffer through a patio. but you just convinced me. next time i'm sending two options, both indoors, both with booths. no apologies.

also genuinely curious about the ice water thing. is that just body temp regulation or do you find alcohol makes it worse? i've noticed my hands go wild with even one drink but i can't tell if it's the alcohol or the anxiety of drinking alcohol while worrying about sweating. probably both.
